Arthalgia: Another name for Joint Pain

Feb 15th, 2010 | By Body Pain Admin | Category: Muscle Joint Pain

Joint pain is sometimes called arthralgia.  Joint pain can be mild, causing some soreness each time you move your joints, and it can impact one or more joints.

Joint pain strikes people of all ages and activity levels, and if not properly treated or dealt with, typically gets progressively worse.

Joint pain can be cause from injury, stress from overuse, disease, degeneration, fractures, tendon or ligament tears, pulls, strains, or sprains, steroid withdrawal, tumors, or cartilage damage.

Diagnosis involves interviewing the patient and performing physical exams.  It is important to remember that your consultation is a two-way process and any extra information you can share with your doctor about your symptoms may help them with diagnosis.

Treatment therapies for patients with advanced arthritis include electrical stimulation, hot packs or cold compresses, ultrasound to relieve pain and reduce swelling, and traction or deep tissue massage to relieve pain.
